One time during a client consultation I was asked if there were any stylistic requirements to having me agree to photograph their wedding - in terms of venue, aesthetic, etc. The fact that this couple felt the need to ask that question broke my heart.
That’s why when we meet for the first time, I’m not going to ask what your colour scheme is or what style of decor you chose. Instead, I’m going to ask you what you’re most excited for on your wedding day. I’ll ask how you want your wedding to *feel*. I want to know what matters most to you - is it making sure you get to spend lots of time with your loved ones who travelled to celebrate with you? Is it committing to forever surrounded by beautiful landscapes? Not only are those the questions that I’m most interested in hearing, but will help me create an incredible experience that focuses on what's most important to you.
And if you allow me to be part of your day, I'm going to show up and do everything I can to preserve those memories so that in 10, 20, 30 years from now you can look back on those photos and remember not only how your wedding looked, but how it felt.
So let me set the record straight: the only “requirement” I have to showing up and photographing your day is that you want me there (and not just as a bystander but someone who wants to celebrate alongside you).
About Me
I married my favourite person on May 21, 2016. We sobbed during our first look, said our vows outside in the rain, ate tacos & drank margaritas. It was my absolute favourite day.
We have a 7 year old labradoodle named Murphy who is our entire world. Having never grown up with pets (aside from the odd fish or hamster), I had no idea how much joy this creature would bring into our lives.
I despise paying for parking. I will leave an extra 20 minutes early so I can find free parking (and will walk no matter how far it is).
I’ve learned the solution to a lot of my problems are similar to those of a child’s: eat a snack + take a nap.
Eric and I love travelling and exploring new cities. For our honeymoon, we chose to go on a 2.5-week long road trip down to L.A. Our first argument as a married couple was about how much wine we were allowed to bring across the border (he won).
I lived in Vancouver for a year while studying photography and my hippie heart absolutely thrived.
Having a vegetable garden
Going to bed at 9pm .. I mean 10pm
Exploring new places with my people
Freshly baked donuts (paired with a cup of black coffee)
Love that journey for me:
People who are unkind
The bugs that keep eating through my garden carrots (see above)
Movies where nothing happens at the end
Unreliable narrators in books
